Euphoria - Under-Rated Genius

They hit like a storm when Dhoom Pichak Dhoom played on our TV screens in 1999. The newness in the song was so awesome that with that single song, they became every music lover's delight. The simple plain lyrics, a mood so Indian with a 'rock' feel to it and most importantly Pradeep Sarkar's awesome video. The doctor with unruled hair and child like innocence proved that he can write songs and not just prescriptions ! Then followed Phir Dhoom, Mantra ( The first ever single by an Indian band ), Gully, Mehfuz, Redhoom ( the best-of collection).

But something went wrong, they didn't make it big the way they deserve to be. For the songs not half good as theirs, other singers were celebrated like icons. Many one song wonders been the Princess or Prince of Indipop. But these guys who not only claimed but did Hind-Rock never got the recognisation they deserve. True, we Love them. Whenever they perform we gather to celebrate ( I remember they performing at Chennai IIT, it was awesome). Still...

Guess they went wrong in promoting themselves. Initially they teamed up with Archies Music ( yes, the very same company who makes cards). They, though make beautiful cards, were not good at selling music. While I was searching for the single Mantra in Bangalore ( 2001 ) at various music stores and even at the Archies store at Brigade Road, they haven’t even heard about it ! At last I managed it from another store ( at Commercial Street which is closed now !). Only Gully was properly marketed ( T-Series) and also sold at a good price ( 99 for CD ). I wonder why hey moved to Tips for Mehfuz ( a bit pricey at 160 ). Though it had a few exceptional songs, it never made to big. Too sad..

They do their music with passion. Got beautiful poems and had some awesome videos. And instead having just a tag line, they show the world that they can DO HindRock. Nor just celebrating Love, they had songs for every emotion. Even for a city ( Dilli ). My favorites include Dhoom, Tum, Aamne Samne, Maa, Phir Dhoom, Aao Na, Pyar Hi Tha, Maeri, Gully, Ab Na Jaa, Mantra, Mehfuz, Bewafa, Soniya and on and on...

We Love you Palash and your band. Waiting for more from you... All the Best...
